On Sunday 30th October from 3-7pm I was at Gwrych Castle telling stories and encouraging creative expression.
Doors are opening wide for Barefoot at the Kitchen Table to step through.
On 30th October I will be at Gwrych Castle, Abergele, which I can see from my bedroom window, during their open day, running 2-3 story telling and writing workshops. This will be the start of more workshops that will go on at Gwrych Castle in the new year.
The open day on 30th October runs from 3-7pm along the themes of Celts and of course Halloween. Check http://gwrychtrust.co.uk/ for more details of the open day.
So there we were all prepared to run Barefoot At The Kitchen Table at Canolfan Dewi Sant Centre in Pensarn. Theresa, the manager, was wonderfully encouraging and supportive. She has also been wonderfully encouraging and supporting with helping Barefoot At The Kitchen Table renegotiate when numbers were not as high as expect.
So for now Barefoot At The Kitchen Table meets at my house - actually at my kitchen table. There is a choice to be barefoot there but mostly we are just barefoot in our acceptance of each other and ourselves.
What caused the change? Well actually it is that old chestnut, finances! I needed a certain number of people to make it viable to hire a hall and even though everyone who came was so amazingly enthusiastic and encouraging, there were not enough of them. I didn't want to stop and so with the openness and supportiveness of Theresa and of some of those who had started to attend, the decisions was made to move things to my house. I have also decided to put the Memoir writing on hold until the new year. This way I can focus on the two courses that have had the most response.
So now on a Monday night from 6-7.30pm a group of 5 participants and myself gather around the Barefoot Kitchen Table and explore creative writing for well-being. This will be until 31st October. Then for 6 weeks from 31st October until 12th December (no workshop on 21st November) we will be back at Canolfan Dewi Sant Centre, Pensarn to look at stepping out, reaching our destination and fear of that using the children's story "We're Going On A Bear Hunt", supported by the Community Well-Being Conwy Team. It will depend on the response whether we then stay at Canolfan Dewi Sant Centre, Pensarn or whether we come back to my Kitchen Table
Then on a Tuesday night from 7.30-9pm a small group gathers to share their creative writing. At the moment we are looking at short stories, metaphor, characters and story arch with wild writings and homework set to be shared the following week. This will stay at my Kitchen Table unless we get a huge increase in participants.
These are not closed groups and please feel free to get in touch and join us. Monday is a bit tight but I'm sure we can squeeze more in.
