The first week of the writing workshops at Canolfan Dewi Sant Centre, Pensarn was encouraging. There was not a great turn out but those who came engaged and enjoyed.
For the "Writing Your Life Story" on Monday at 3.45 there were only two people but they were open and honest about their life stories, had some strong writing already written and were encouraged to keep writing, which is essence is the important thing. Unfortunately both of those who attend cannot make it regularly with one living in the south of England and the other involved in lots of travelling with her work. So next week's group will look very different.
The "Writing for Well-Being" at 6pm had three people but again they were open and honest with each other, produced some great pieces of work, and both said they were encouraged, had things to think about, left me with things to think about, and both will be back next week. In this session we looked at Safe Place, what our safe place was and how we felt about it. This brought up interesting discussions about how what is the ideal for one person is not for someone else, and we talked about being content where we were rather than trying to escape.
The Young People's Writing Workshop had no one attend at all but this was a great time for me to get on and do some writing of my own. Two hours alone in a room with no distracts is what every writer needs at some point.
The Dewi Sant Creative Writing Group at 7.30pm had three people attend from a variety of different writing styles and experiences. In that we wrote and shared about what being a writer meant to us and how we would like to live our lives to be able to write more. The group then went away with a picture to write 1000 words about. Two of the three said they would definitely be back and the one who says she will not be return says it is "it's not you or the subject, it's just not for me!" This is because she already writes and is published in travel blogs, etc.
As the fascilitator I was greatly encouraged by the engagement with the participants and so the workshops will continue in Canolfan Dewi Sant Centre until Christmas so that people know they are there and start to attend.
