Today is the first day when life goes back to some sort of normality after the Christmas holidays. It is the first day that everyone is at work and school from Monday morning and for me all my family has now departed for their respective homes. There was a lot of cleaning went on over the weekend here in Sea Road. In fact things were so normal even that the Jehovah's Witness's came to call today. Haven't seen them since early December. They take a break and go visit with their families over the holiday season too.
But for Barefoot At The Kitchen Table today has meant a long hard day of advertising. I spent the whole morning writing adverts then sharing them on Facebook and Streetlife plus emailing people who had shown an interest previously. Unfortunately I did get a bit flustered and there are one or two mistakes, but nothing that can't be rectified by someone giving me a quick email or message.
So what is going on? Well I have four exciting projects going on in 2017; 2 new and 2 old ones.
From Thursday 26th January I will be in the Countess's Writing Room at Gwrych Castle from 1.30-3pm and then every Thursday from then on running writing workshops based around the Picturesque movement; wild walks, writing about emotions, season, questing, comparing the sublime and romantic and lots more. I have been doing a lot of reading and planning toward this over the last couple of months and am very excited myself as to the content of these workshops. The cost if you are interested is £7.50 per person per session with £2.50 of it going to The Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust.
From Wednesday 1st February, and then every Wednesday from then on, I will be at Gwysty Glywdr, Pensarn, from 10.30-12 noon running Memoir Writing Workshops. I did start this off at Canolfan Dewi Sant Centre, Pensarn in September but the take-up wasn't great. I have had a few people get in touch with me who are interested in writing their life stories and so I will have another go at it. I have put together a 6 week course so far and will then see how it goes from there. I am looking forward to this. The cost of these workshops are £5 per person per session plus a request from the owners of Gwysty Glywdr that everyone buys a coffee or tea or similar.
From Monday 16th January the Writing for Well-Being group will recommence. We had a great time toward the end of the year looking at the children's book “We're Going on a Bear Hunt” and then were spoilt by it being on Channel 4 on Christmas Eve. So we will start the year by watching that and doing some writing around that. This group is quite established and has a reasonable number of people but if you are interested in joining please do get in touch. It is from 6.16-7.45pm every Monday and costs £5 per person per session. This is held at my home in Abergele.
Tuesday 17th sees the start back of the Creative Writing Group. We only meet once a month at my home in Abergele but there is always room for more. In fact my busy time of advertising has led to a new member starting next week. If you are interested in this please get in touch. Cost is £5 per person per session.
So as you can see there has been lots of thinking and planning and all sorts going on. I am excited about what is happening. There are also a couple of things in the pipeline with regard to the local council, a local community centre and a conference centre in Conwy. So it is very much a time of “watch this space”. If January 2017 is any indication as to what the rest of the year looks like for Barefoot At The Kitchen Table it should be an exciting time.
